Guidance for the Month Ahead from Spirit Element
Happy February my darling. I hope you’ve had a wonderful start to the new year. I have spent much time reflecting and shifting towards the next leg of my career. If you read my daily draws, then you’ll probably know that I’m finally launching my tarot membership next month. Its something I’ve wanted to do for years but kept putting it off, mostly because I didn’t want to let go of apothecary recipes. But I’m ready to cross the threshold now and step into a new era. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more information in the coming weeks.
A new year means a new monthly spread which I’m calling the Seer’s Compass. This name holds a bit of a clue to the new name Spirit Element will shift into once the tarot membership launches. Can you guess what that name might be?
This month’s reading is quite powerful and empowering. It might feel like its pushing you out of your comfort zone but in a good way hopefully. Do your best to sit with the cards and to let them show you the wisdom of yourself and how powerful you can be when you believe in yourself.

Detailed Reading: Insights and Interpretation
“The darkness around us might somewhat light up if we would first practice using the light we have in the place we are.” - Henry S. Haskins
The Thesis - Eostre
If there is one card in the Seasons of the Witch: Ostara oracle which represents the last days of winter, just before spring, It would be Eostre. This card is a reminder that things are always darkest just before dawn, just before light breaks and your situation turns around. March might feel that way: like you’ve reached your limit and can not go another day, hour or minute with your challenges looming over you. But rest assured, this is the last stretch.
Things are going to lighten up for you soon. Eostre has appeared to encourage you to keep the faith. Don’t quit, not now. Eostre doesn’t come up often but when she does, it means you are favored. It means she knows you need a bit of good luck right now and she will reward your patience with good luck for some time to come. The other cards in this reading are going to feel very heavy, like you aren’t going to catch a break anytime soon. Don’t believe that’s true. Put your faith in happy endings and know that you’ll get through your challenges and very soon at that.
Your emotions are always within your control, even when that doesn’t appear to be the case. You can always choose how you respond to a situation. It might be challenging when you’re used to defaulting to frustration or anger, sadness or insecurity but, you still have the ability to choose something else other than what’s familiar.
The King of Elixirs, more traditionally known as the king of cups is a master of his emotions. It's not that he never feels things like rage or doubt. He feels things like this all of the time, he just doesn’t let them control him. He evaluates his emotions asking questions like ‘What’s the true source of this feeling? Is this feeling serving me? What’s a healthier response at this moment?” Recently I watched an episode of Matlock where one of the characters—Olympia—told one of the other characters—Sarah—to stop and count to five before responding to someone. Now she suggested this practice for a completely different reason but it applies to emotions as well. When something triggers you, stop for five seconds and give yourself some space to let your reason catch up to your emotions. That’s how you master the realm of emotions, just like the king of elixirs.
To receive the page of elixirs aka the page of cups for this question is a sign that you are naturally curious and passionate. Things catch your attention and then your heart with ease and you may be the type of person to fall in love with things quickly. However, falling in love and acting on that love are two very different things.
Perhaps you are someone who easily drifts from one thing to another without truly committing to anything at all. Or perhaps you love so many things that you struggle to choose just one, fearing you’ll miss out on something else. This card represents the things you can’t control at least for the time being. The page of cups often guides you to give into your raw instincts and to follow your heart even when it appears silly to do so.
It's interesting to see that the king of cups (your emotions) is what you can control while the page of cups suggests what’s out of control is also your emotions. But emotion is expressed in two different ways with this set of cards. The king of cups guides you to control emotions that you have let control you. While the page of cups is about following what brings you joy, not just any emotions that strikes you. In other words, let yourself love what you love. If something piques your interest then go with it, regardless of what it might be. But if something feels like it's pulling you down, then that’s when the king of cups comes along to remind you that it's often within your control to avoid misery.
The Axis represents how you can find stability which is interesting because fours in tarot represent stability. In this case, the four of rods represent all that you have done to get you to this point. It suggests you are far more grounded than you might realize. Perhaps you don’t have everything you want but are you content? Do you have enough to be comfortable and to live perhaps not grand but pretty good? Then perhaps give yourself some grace even when you have a string of failures. You’re still standing and you still have the ability to achieve a dream, even if it's going to take longer than you’ve hoped.
If you’re someone who doesn’t feel content or like your needs are being met then know that there’s a message in this card for you too. The four of rods represent a milestone, not the whole journey and your journey isn’t over. There will still be plenty more for you to do and you can rise from whatever you’re going through now.
The ten of blades is the end of a journey. I like to think of it as a minor expression of the Tower. It may not be as devastating but it's enough to walk away from the past knowing it's well and truly over. The ten of blades isn’t an easy card to manage. It requires a complete surrender. Which means, no bargaining or attempts to keep some of what you had. This card represents the moment when you have to let go because you’re clearly out of other options. Remember the first card, Eostre? The message there was that it's always darkest before dawn. This card represents that darkness. It's the very, very last hardship before the light returns and you can rebuild. There’s no way to fix a broken situation or get out of a problem. It is what it is and you’ll have to deal with it exactly as it is today. But then it will be done and you can finally move on.
Closing Reflections: Empowering Action Steps
As you move through March, consider these questions:
How much faith do you have that things will work out? What can you do to build upon whatever bit of faith you already have?
What does it mean to you to follow your heart without letting it run away with you? Is it possible to master your emotions and give into them at the same time? If so, how?
In what ways do you need to surrender? Consider all options from a mindset, a person, a location, or even an idea of something or someone.
This month’s reading is a reminder that change is often challenging but can lead to extreme growth and happiness. Don’t give up because things are hard right now. No dark cycle can last forever and if you’re willing to stick it through and to do the hard work, then your efforts will certainly be rewarded
