Guidance for the Month Ahead from Spirit Element

Happy March, my darling. I have to admit, I would’ve liked a different set of cards. They aren’t bad but not super positive either. Especially with something like the ten of blades which is what I consider to be a minor version of the Tower card. Not as devastating but there will still be grief when it appears. On the opposite end of the reading however is Eostre which is one of the more positive cards in Seasons of the Witch: Ostara Oracle. Fitting really considering the Spring Equinox is just weeks away, a day that represents balance and this is certainly a balanced reading.

Speaking of Ostara, the final Seasons of the Witch oracle has made her way into the world. After nearly seven years, the entire wheel is complete which means a lot more fun is on the way. One thing I’ve been wanting to do for a long while is to create guides on how to use the decks. I cannot tell you how many times someone has asked me to recommend a SOTW deck for them which always felt half-hearted because all of the decks weren’t done. But now, I can create content with just these decks alone starting with this quiz: Which Seasons of the Witch oracle is right for you right now?

This is a fun quiz that I truly hope you enjoy and you can use it again and again as your life changes and you experience different seasons. If you love the quiz, be sure to let me know in the comments.

Detailed Reading: Insights and Interpretation

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” - Buckminster Fuller

The Thesis - Arts and Crafts

The cards are asking you for your authenticity during the month of February. To take back the responsibility you have to be yourself. This is one of the more forceful cards of the deck; encouraging you to stop expecting others to save you. No one can “heal” you, you have to be willing to heal yourself. No one can change your life, you have to be willing to put in the effort to obtain the kind of life you wish to live. Not even the universe can simply make your life better despite what us spiritual people have been led to believe.

YOU still have to make efforts for yourself. You can receive help, guidance and benefit from the experience of others but at the end of the day, no one can change you but you. Likewise, no one has the ability to make you angry or sad or happy. They can do things which trigger these emotions but you’re in control of what your emotions do, no one else. That means you can choose to let anger take you over or you can choose another way. The point is that you are being asked to stop blaming others for what you have or don’t have, what you do or don’t do and how to respond or choose not to respond. This is what it means to take back your power: to know that you are the only person in control of who you are and who you become.

The Domain

→ King of Pentacles (female)

This deck has two king of pentacles and here we see the female version. This is not the same energy as the queen of pentacles for this energy is larger, more intense and more powerful. The King of pentacles is the master of the material realms. If the tarot had a high powered CEO, this would be it. Someone who can play the long game and who can sacrifice now for much bigger rewards later mostly because they can see the bigger picture.

The king of pentacles is also a master of strategy which is ultimately the reason this card is in this position for this month. What’s within your control is the ability to craft, create, sculpt your goals, dreams, desires, your sense of self and really your life. It is absolutely possible to wake up one day and say, this is the day I will change my life. Today is the day I’ll make a plan to tackle my debt, or today is the day I’ll start working out and stick to it, or today is the day I’ll sign up for a dating app, start applying for new jobs, enroll in a certification, learn to network, hold my head high, etc, etc.

The king of pentacles says don’t just make another vision board: live it! Decide who you’re going to be and make no excuses when it comes to taking action. The king of pentacles isn’t small and you don’t have to be either. It's totally in your control to be as big of an energy as you wish to be.

The Periphery

Death

Ohh, I love this card for this question. It means the end of an era is coming for you whether you want it or not. Something fundamental has shifted in your life. Something at the very base levels of your being is transforming into something entirely different and new. Take a moment to close your eyes, search your soul and see if you can feel the shift happening within you. How does it feel? Powerful? Confident? Inquisitive? Regal? Nurturing? Let it come through and embrace it for it’s already happening. Death is a somewhat visceral card and while it brings up fears of a physical death, it's really related to a psychological ending. The most important takeaway is that death becomes the fertilizer for something new which is why it's almost always depicted with flowers rising out of the carnage.

The Axis

The Sun

The best thing you can do for yourself this month is find your positive attitude. Believe things will get better even when you don’t have evidence to support it. And listen to me when I say this works. I don’t care what anyone else says, I have done this many times and it works every time. The problem is that it takes time. It doesn’t happen overnight but with commitment and effort, you will find that it always makes things better.

But it’s not just about saying pretty affirmations. It's about changing the way you speak and behave. I had a friend years ago who really hurt me. I stewed over it for years, getting upset every time the feelings resurfaced. Over the last few months, I decided I’m done with feeling bad, with feeling like a victim. I started saying “no, she doesn’t get the benefit of occupying my thoughts. No, she doesn’t deserve my anger. She doesn’t deserve my desires for revenge or to prove she didn’t break me. She doesn’t deserve any space in my brain. She doesn’t deserve anything from me.” I started saying things like this every time I caught a thought about her until one day, I realized I hadn’t thought about her at all for a long time. This is what I mean by developing a positive attitude and to turn towards the light. You don’t have to say sweet words or fancy affirmations, you just have to choose the answer that empowers you the most.

The Codex

Three of Wands

The three of wands is a card about vision and manifestation. But here, manifestation isn’t the woo-woo wish upon a star type of energy. This is much more methodical and confident. The three of wands represents a person who sees what they want and makes a plan to go and get it. They don’t believe in luck or handouts from the universe. They believe in themselves and hard work and persistence. Threes in tarot represent growth thus, this card shows you will have some significant leap forward when you embrace the energy from this month. You have big energies in these cards. The Sun and Death are major arcana cards which means these are big shifts coming your way. And while the king of pentacles isn’t a major card, it's still a powerful energy. It still represents the chance for you to step fully into your own and be your own person. Every card here is about you, taking control of you! A lot can change for you so go ahead and make it happen.

Don’t dismiss how much control you have over your life. There are plenty of things in life you can’t control like what others do or think or the state of world affairs. But there’s also plenty of things that are well within your power to control or change. You can decide how you feel or how you want to feel. You can change how you look, what you do in life, where you live and for how long. You change the people you spend your time with or what you’re willing to put up with. The problem isn’t that you can’t control things, it's accepting that choices come with consequences.

Closing Reflections: Empowering Action Steps

As you move through February, consider these questions:

  • What are three things you need to take responsibility for or commit to?

  • What’s the vision you have for yourself? Who do you see yourself becoming this year?

  • What can you already feel yourself shifting towards?

This month’s reading invites you to believe you are meant for more and that you have what it takes to obtain this vision of what your life could be. Remember that there are many things within your control. Reclaim you power.
