The cards for this week are quite encouraging. Most of them seem to do with power and perhaps more aptly, empowerment. We see a lot of strong cards like the Emperor and the appearance of the king of wands twice, but in two different expressions. You’ll see what I mean as you read on. There’s also a lot of emphasis on the need to keep going, to keep fighting for what’s important to you. I believe this is the year of authenticity. A time when people are no longer apologizing for who they are or what they want. Or at the very least, are starting to.
That’s what led to me wanting to close my membership and rebirth it in the image of tarot and oracle cards. For too long, I offered what I believed I should do rather than what I wanted to do or felt called to do. But now more and the same can be your story as well. I hope these cards inspire you to be more like you, however you take that statement in.

→ Seven of Wands
The seven of wands represents defensiveness but more than that, knowing when something is actually a threat vs. knowing when to put some distance between you and someone making a lot of noise. Sometimes people will come at you with their sharp words backed up with little but air. And in these moments, you don’t need to do anything but let them tire themselves out. They’ll give up eventually when their threats go unnoticed and there’s no longer an audience to be had. However, there are times when you really do have to push back and show how strong you are. Sometimes others need to feel your wrath or ire to understand you are not someone to be messed with. This card invites you to decide which is true for you today.

→ King of Pentacles
The King of Pentacles is methodical, patient but also ambitious. He stands as ruler over the realm of finances and material pursuits such as the career, mostly because he has the determination, vision and most importantly perseverance to take the journey towards wealth. He is wealth, not just in money but in everything he does. He’s not separate from the feeling of wealth, having learned to stitch the feeling into his spirit a long time ago, even on the days when his environment doesn’t match how he feels. And so he’s never down for long, always knowing he’s built one fortune and can repeat as many times as he needs to. The King of pentacles appears to tell you three things: be patient and believe that you can achieve your dreams but also know that challenges are just a part of life. If you’re hoping for a quick solution to your problem then the king of pentacles can do nothing for you. But if you’re willing to stick it out and grow through your challenges, then the king of pentacles will help you find success.

→ Ace of Cups
The Ace of cups, like all ace cards, represents an opportunity. In this case, the opportunity corresponds to matters of the heart. While it would be easy and perhaps desirable to immediately assume this card relates to love, there are so many other avenues in which this card’s energy can unfurl. Love isn’t just about a romantic partner or even the shared relationship between two people. This card invites you to open your heart to all of love’s possibilities. To open your heart, that is the chance being offered to you now. Today is a day to contemplate how you can soften your heart and allow more love, passion and ease into your life. But as is the case with all aces, this chance is not a guarantee. It's still up to you to grab for whatever presents itself to you today or allow it to slip back to where it came. Take time to consider a new love interest, spark of an idea, a connection snapping into place, or even just your interest being piqued. Today could be the start of an unexpected love affair if you're willing.

→ Nine of Wands
The nine of wands is such a bittersweet card. On the one hand, it's a welcome sign that the battle is nearly done. Soon, you can breathe a sigh of relief and perhaps take a much needed pause. However, nearly is not the same as final meaning, this card suggests there is another push required. There’s still more obstacles to face before your work is done. This card suggests you’re tired and battleworn as evidenced by the many scars on our maiden’s body. She’s felt the sting of her roses thorns more times than she can count and yet she’s still here, tending to this garden. For her, the cuts are an occupational hazard that’s worth the end result. This card appears to tell you to keep going, don’t quit just yet. You may be tired and frustrated or wondering if all of what you’ve faced is worth it. This card is your confirmation that it is and more than that, you have just enough in you to keep going and make it through your next hardship.

→The Emperor
The Emperor seems cut and dry but I often believe this card gets a bad wrap. The Emperor is a visionary and a leader who has to make tough decisions, knowing he can’t make everyone happy as hard as he might try. Sometimes he has to be strict and stern to make sure the best outcome is achieved and because of this, he’s sometimes labeled as ruthless and limiting. But when you look at this card more closely, you see that under all of the heaviness of his jewels and armor, his jacket is covered in flowers indicating the softness he hides under many layers and masks. And at the top his head is a crown made of a castle, suggesting the heaviness his mind bears and the responsibility he carries to protect that under his care. The Emperor therefore appears to guide you to use your strength in pursuit of the well-being of either yourself or others, and perhaps both. Be a voice for those who can’t be one for themselves. Speak up for your own autonomy and command respect for your vision. The Emperor protects what’s his and what’s important to him and he mentors you to do the same.

→ King of Wands
I’ve said this quite often this month but I love this image. The king of wands here is marching to the beat of his own drum, a drum that is on fire. You can’t be more the center of attention than that. He isn’t panicked or even concerned as he forges ahead set ablaze. Indeed the opposite is true: he’s confident, brazen and seems to be determined to get to wherever he’s going. The king of wands is confident, a gift he offers you when he appears. He advises you to light your force and let others watch as you burn as bright as you dare. He expects respect which is why he has it. He doesn’t hide his greatness which is why others can see it. He feels confident in himself which is why others feel his confidence too. He knows that what he sends out into the world is what he gets back so he chooses his energy wisely. Today, put on your confidence even if it's just a little. Hold your head high, smile at strangers, roll back your shoulders or any other gesture that makes you feel taller, stronger. Just see if this makes a difference in how you walk through the world today and if so, how might this difference change you for the better?

→ King of Wands (female)
This deck includes male and female king cards. The message is quite similar but with a more feminine perspective. Still, the advice of confidence and authenticity hold true but there’s a little more refinement here. This king is just as expressive but she presents her energy as a stream of light rather than fire. Fire can be destructive and chaotic whereas her light seems to dazzle rather than stoke fear. Her confidence is not subtle but not necessarily over the top either. She’s learned to master the art of being enough: showing what she can do without showing off. That’s the true test of a master: can you burn brightly today without burning others? Once, someone told me she was asserting herself in a way that was rude and uncalled for towards another person. That isn’t being assertive so much as being aggressive and it's definitely not confidence. To be confident means you can be yourself regardless of what others think of you. Being aggressive is trying to force others to accept or submit to you. The female king of wands doesn’t need blind acceptance of her by you. She loves herself and that is more than enough.
