Attitude of Gratitude bath and body oil
November is here which means Thanksgiving is right around the corner. The heritage of Thanksgiving might have an ugly history but I enjoy the thought of reclaiming this holiday in the name of good, light, and gratitude. Whether you choose to acknowledge this holiday or not, it serves as an excellent reminder to practice gratitude as much as you can. So I’ve created a gratitude energy body oil to incorporate into your daily rituals. Each time you use it or the corresponding diffuser blend, let it be a reminder to stop and say a prayer of gratitude for something, big or small.
76 drops Lavender essential oil
72 drops Bergamot essential oil
32 drops Bulgarian Rose essential oil (or other rose essential oil)
20 drops clove essential oil
2 oz shea oil
2 oz watermelon seed oil
1 vitamin E capsule
Dried flowers*, optional
*I had recently dried a bouquet of hydrangea flowers which came out to be this beautiful dusty rose color and felt like the epitome of gratitude so I slipped those into the bottle along with some lavender buds and an autumn colored foliage leaf. Gratitude, for me at least, brings to mind softness, beauty and harmony so having fried flowers felt like a natural fit. But feel free to omit them or swap them out with other flowers and herbs of your choice.
Make the body oil
Slip any flowers or herbs into the bottle then add the essential oil mixture to a 4 oz bottle of choice. Prick the vitamin E capsule with a needle and squeeze contents into the bottle. Fill the bottle with the shea and watermelon seed oils. Cap and shake well. Hold the bottle in your hands and bring it to your heart. Now dedicate this bottle to the feeling of gratitude with a short prayer of choice. You might say something like “The contents of this bottle always brings more things for me to be grateful for.” Follow your prayer with a closing statement such as ‘Amen’ or ‘So it is.’
Use your body oil as you would any other body oil by massaging it into very slightly damp skin after a warm bath or shower. Add a teaspoon to a warm bath for a skin softening self-care treatment. Or massage a few drops into the scalp and on the ends of the hair for daily conditioning.
